Lancashire Area BTBA Get Together and Training Session

9th March 2003.

A very good turn out of 29 Lancashire adult and senior squad bowlers arrived at Lakeside superbowl to have a fun day of bowling games and a small tournament and an offer of coaching to those who wanted it.

The day started with a drink of course with introductions and a brief agenda for the day. Every body got under way with the 8+ game, paying their £1.00 and starting on lane one attempting to get to lane eight without getting less than 8 pins on each lane. Trevor Lamprell was first to do it with about six or seven others. It did prove a bit early for some who needed quite a few goes at £1.00 a time before they got going. This game proved very enjoyable with Gary Marcus winning, Barbara Glover second and Trevor Lamprell third.

Everybody then got into pre selected teams to have a go at Pyramids, the idea being to get as many of the numbers as possible. Getting two pins out of the ten, as always, proved difficult but Karen Constantine showed everybody how to do it by getting the 10 pin which bounced off the skirt taking the 7 pin out. She does not think Andy her husband would believe her so I hope Karen this article might convince him. There was a lot of team discussion involved in this game. Team 3 Michael Tetlow, Trevor Lamprell, Chris Green and Kevin Weatherall were joint winners with team 5, Tina Wild, Jim Lawley, Karen Constanatine and Alistair Morwood.

After all this a break was needed, either to eat, drink or give the gaming machines a hammering. In the afternoon the three game match started, with the handicapping based on everybody’s trial results. Moaning from some people and elation from others. I wonder why? Some very good scratch scores were obtained Steve Ostiadel 268,216, Dave Weisenburger 250, Michael Heaton 238, for the ladies Barbara Glover 228 and for the younger bowlers Clare Wood 207, Gary Marcus getting a 200. The lane conditions held up very well and virtually no complaints were heard all day. The final three to go into the step ladder were Michael Heaton with, including handicaps, 668, Steve Ostiadel 673 but the ladies coming out on top with Barbara Glover with 695.

Michael stepped up to do battle with Ozzy but had very little chance when Ozzy put 6 in a row together and finished with a 268 scratch. Barbara with trepidation started the final with 2 spares against Ozzy’s double but he then had a split and Barbara responded with a double. Ozzy came back with a strike and 2 spares. It was still anybody’s game until Ozzy opened on the next 2 frames and Barbara closed every frame coming out as winner scoring a 217 against Ozzy’s 191.

A good day was had by all and thanks go to Lakeside Superbowl for their support.
