2nd QUARTERLY MEETING 17th APRIL 2004

Held at Blackpool Premier Bowl

Present      Mal Holmes , Mike Glover, Maureen McCarthy, Cath Dennison, Jackie Batty, Steve Ray, Chris Maughan, Gary Marcus, Greg Jennings, Rachel Jennings, Chris Aldersley, Phil Aldersley, Barbara Glover, Pete Singleton.

Apologies.   Bryan Wiggans, Bev Weisenburger, Robin Liptrot, Carol Barter, John Barter.

Mike Glover opened the meeting and suggested by way of a change to the normal agenda that we just ran through what was needed to be done and who had volunteered or already was doing it.  He believed this would cover all the items. This information had been taken from the minutes of previous meetings.  The meeting agreed.

  1. Trial dates for 2004.  It had previously been stated that we must set these dates earlier in the year to give bowlers a better chance to organise their diaries.

Phil Aldersley and Robin Liptrot had agreed to get together and organise this but due to PA’s problems with IT this had not happened.  They agreed to action this by the end of April

Once this was done then the secretary could start the process of selecting a venue.

Mike Glover pointed out that from 2005 the BTBA would be putting aside 2 weekends in November each year for county trials.  On these weekends they would not be sanctioning any tournaments to allow bowlers to bowl in their county trials.  This fitted in well with Lancashire as they had already moved their trial dates to November since 2002.

  1. Scott Banks tournament with Yorkshire. Prior to the meeting Chris Lansdowne had confirmed to MG that he was in the process of sorting out this event.  He would contact Yorkshire and establish a date to enable the County to find a venue.

Pete Singleton and Chris Aldersley said that Chris Lansdowne had not as yet contacted them.  Chris Aldersley still had to finalise her proposed changes to the 6-man team format with Yorkshire.

  1. Albert Pursglove County Championships.  Mike Glover confirmed that all

arrangements were in place.  A sanction number had been issued but as yet not

      many entries had been received.

  1. Little and Large Tournament at Morecambe.  Bev W who was unable to attend the meeting due to sickness had confirmed that she and Jenny Lloyd were still dealing with it.  However due to difficulties with the sanction number and lack of entries it had been postponed until 18th July.  This date still had to be finally confirmed.

  1. Grand Prix Doubles at Morecambe. This was still on for the end of August.

Bev W and Jenny Lloyd had obtained the sanction number and were collating entries.  Mike Glover stated that Mal Holmes had looked into the process of getting this tournament merited for Adult Team England qualification.  He had been told that the decision was up to the Team England committee.  Mike Glover had then followed this up with members of this committee. They stated that they had not been made aware of the request for this Morecambe tournament to be considered.  The reasons may be that the format did not fit the criteria i.e. the number of separated games to be used for allocation of points to the merit table.  Also the merit tournament calendar has well established. It showed one merit tournament per month and until one of these dropped out of the calendar there was no opening for any more at this moment in time.

  1. Chris Maughan 300 game.  Mal Holmes confirmed that as a result of the

BTBA refusing to acknowledge this game he had written an appeal with 5 very valid points.  This appeal was read out to the meeting.  Everybody agreed that this matter should not be forgotten, as there appeared to have been a genuine injustice.

  1. Paul Raynor Awards.  Mike Glover confirmed that he had now received

confirmation from the BTBA that his scores at the England trials would be acknowledged.  Barbara Glover would chase this up.  Mike Glover also confirmed requesting Bev W to send the relevant Lancashire awards to him that had been agreed at the previous meetings.

  1. Red Rose on shirt.  As discussed at previous meetings everybody agreed that

the back of the existing Lancashire shirts now looked very plain and needed a large Lancashire rose or something similar to be embroidered on. Again we would request Bev W to obtain a quote for this change.  Bryan Wiggans, in his absence through Mike Glover, had suggested that because shirts were Lancashire’s biggest expenditure with the exception of lineage, we should get comparative costs.  This matter was supported by the fact that, as requested at the last meeting, Barbara Glover had obtained a sample of an embroidered “supporters shirt” which she passed round those present.  The meeting agreed that the quality of the shirt, which was ‘Fruit of the Loom’, was the same as already supplied, the embroidery was a very high standard and it was approximately 1/3rd cheaper.  Everybody approved of the idea of supporters shirts. For those who were interested which it was agreed could be obtained through Barbara Glover.

  1. Alternative Shirts for Senior Ladies.   Maureen McCarthy proposed that

Lancashire Senior ladies would like to have a different shirt and were willing to buy their own. A debate took place and it was agreed that Maureen McCarthy, Chris Aldersley and Barbara Glover should visit some suppliers and return to one of the meetings later in the year with their proposals for a new Lancashire Shirt.  The general consensus of the meeting was that the shirt was a uniform, identifiable with Lancashire, and that all teams should wear the same.

  1. Centre Reps providing more support for Publicity manager Greg Jennings.

Mike Glover confirmed that he had sent another email to all centre reps requesting more support for Greg to do what he had volunteered for, any local information, any achievements whether bowling related or not of our members, get the info to him so that he can get publicity for the sport.  Greg reported that he had received very poor response to the requests so far.  He also stated that he was still in discussions with Fed Millar about a magazine or possibly a one-page monthly news letter that could be distributed by email.

  1. 2003 Trials.  MG reported that the outstanding injured bowlers had now

completed the trials and logged their scores with Bryan Wiggans.

  1. Snr/Adult Fun Day.  Mike G, Carol C, Phil A and Chris A had organised

this fun day which appeared to be enjoyed by all with money being raised for

      both sections.

  1. Financial Principles. MG still requested that the Lancs executive members need to discuss the financial principles.

  1. Under 10’s Academy.  Bryan W (in his absence through MG) confirmed that

he was still working on this and in discussions with Peter Lam. The meeting agreed that it was a very good and new idea that was, as far as everybody was aware, not being done by any other county.  Their only competition for this age group was at the Nationals.  If this academy could be established it would be good for the future of  Lancashire  and also good for bowling as a whole.

  1. Presentation Night. Rachel Jennings said she was still looking into this and

also possibly a Race Night later on in the year.  The first thing was to find a venue.  Barbara Glover said she would ask at Preston.

  1. ANY OTHER BUSINESS

Quarterly meetings are they worth having?  The meeting very strongly agreed that we should keep them going as they got everybody together and got people going to do things.

Fund Raising.  Cath Dennison confirmed she was trying to sort this out.  Steve Ray volunteered to help in view of the shortly to be held County Championships at Blackpool.

Accounts.  Mike Glover tabled copies of the latest accounts for those present at the meeting to view.  The county would have enough to cover County Team lineage for the Intercounties but more finances would help towards funding the team members and others with out of pocket expenses when representing the county.  It was noted that it was personally quite expensive to represent your county or be a volunteer but not as much for the junior teams who are helped by the fund raising that their organisers and parents undertake.

National Council Nominations.  Phil Aldersley confirmed that he had been contacted by BTBA head office for a CV that would be include in the forthcoming documentation to be sent out to all counties. When received Lancashire would have to call an EGM to put forward Lancashire’s nominations.

New Centre.  Pete Singleton announced that a new centre had opened at Ashton in Makerfield and had already set up a YBC which had its first day today.  They had resurrected the name of Manchester YBC . The club for now was being organised by Neil Ready and Andy Dodd.

New Sanctioned League.  Mike Glover confirmed that he had been

approached by an individual bowler from Burnley who was intending

to set up a new doubles league which he wanted to sanction.  The set

up pack had been sent to him.

NEXT MEETING

Mike Glover, at the request of the absent Bev W, asked if the next

meeting could be held at Morecambe. A large number present rejected

this and  thought that it was long time since it had been held at               Worsley and the vote overwhelmingly was for Worsley.  The date was agreed as Saturday 10th July 2004 at 7.00pm.

Mike Glover requested that one of the Worsley members present (The Aldersleys/Jennings, Jackie Batty/ Pete Singleton) check and confirm that the room is available for us on that date
